Today there is an empty pew
where our friend Bill used to sit,
but his memory will burn bright
just as this room is lit.
William was no stranger to us,
in fact sometimes he was the glue
that helped hold this place together
so it would be here for me and you.
He was more than a faithful member
to some he was a lifelong friend,
quite more than a deacon,
he was a true leader of men.
I'll miss his smile on Sunday mornings,
I'll miss seeing him working in his yard,
I'll miss the way it all seemed easy to him,
though I know it must have been hard.
I'll miss him greeting friends and strangers,
I'll miss hearing his opening or closing prayer,
But if I look closely at that empty pew
I think Bill is still there.
His memory forever a part of this church
like an eternal member of the board,
and though we will miss him very much,
he's now at peace and in the care of our Lord.

We'll miss you, Bill~
